Carlos Correa trains his puppy to be an all-star dog shortstop

Houston Astros shortstop Carlos Correa is serious about baseball. How serious? He wants to make sure his adorable puppy has the skills to play the field. So Correa hit some grounders to his energetic little pup, and we’ve got the video proof.

Groot wants to be just like his dad⚾️???? Groot quiere ser como su papá ⚾️????

The puppy’s name is Groot, presumably named after the Marvel character made recently famous by the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie. (Is puppy Groot cuter than dancing baby Groot? Only you can be the judge of that.) The best part of that video is Correa constantly shouting encouragement at his puppy, but Groot definitely has the whole fetch thing completely handled. He could definitely be the shortstop of his all-puppy baseball team!

National Puppy Day was March 23, so Correa missed it by about a week. But that day was full of social media photos of baseball players and their dogs. Courtesy of baseball writer Stacey May Fowles, here are some additional photos of players and their furry canine friends.

Doesn’t that make your day better?
