Carlos Condit Wants the UFC 189 Robbie Lawler vs. Rory MacDonald Title Fight Winner

With his second-round finish of Thiago Alves at UFC Fight Night 67 on Saturday, fourth-ranked welterweight Carlos Condit reminded the world that he’s still a contender. Sidelined for fourteen months with a knee injury, Condit dismantled the twelfth-ranked Alves in the second round.

Heading into the fight, the 31-year-old wanted to make a statement.

“This fight will show that I haven’t gone anywhere and that I belong in the running for the title,” the No. 4 ranked welterweight said during the open workouts on Thursday.

Champion Robbie Lawler puts his belt on the line for the first time against Rory MacDonald at UFC 189 on July 11. Despite saying that he didn’t care who he fought next during his in-cage interview following Saturday's fight, Condit wants to face the winner of the title fight.

“Whoever has the title after Lawler and Rory fight, I want that guy,” he said on Fox Sports Live after the event.

“The Natural Born Killer” predicts that Macdonald will win on July 11, and the two have history. Condit handed the Canadian his first career loss at UFC 115 in June of 2010. MacDonald was ahead on the scorecards when Condit delivered a TKO finish with seven seconds remaining in the fight.

“I think Rory is going to take it, and I guess we have unfinished business,” Condit said. “He’d love a rematch against me, so we’ll see what’s up.”
