Carl Nassib reportedly has top-selling jersey in NFL after coming out as gay

Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Carl Nassib is feeling support from fans a day after coming out as gay. Since the announcement, Nassib has the top-selling jersey in the NFL at Fanatics, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Fanatics has not released data on how many Nassib jerseys have been sold over the past 24 hours. The Fanatics website lists the top-selling jerseys from Aug. 1, 2020 to Nov. 1, 2020. Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes and Cam Newton are the top three on the NFL list. Those are the players Nassib jumped to claim the top spot.

Nassib, 28, made the announcement in an Instagram post Monday. Both the Raiders and the NFL posted messages of support for Nassib on Twitter.

Carl Nassib becomes first openly gay active player

With the announcement, Nassib became the first openly gay active NFL player. Former Missouri defensive end Michael Sam came out as gay prior to the 2014 NFL draft, and was selected in the seventh round by the St. Louis Rams. Sam played in the preseason, but never saw the field in a regular season game.

Sam thanked Nassib for coming out and "owning your truth" in a tweet Tuesday. While Sam wasn't mentioned in Nassib's coming out video, Sam's announcement in 2014 paved the way for Nassib to post his video Monday.

Nassib has already received support from other NFL players. New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley tweeted "much respect" in response to Nassib's video. Arizona Cardinals rusher JJ Watt also sent support Nassib's way.
