A single-vehicle crash resulted in a fatality Tuesday after a car fell 150 feet into a ravine off Mount Baker Highway in northern Whatcom County, according to the Washington State Highway Patrol.
Mary P. Coghlan, 67, of Bellingham, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was the only occupant of the vehicle and she was not wearing her seat belt, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The car she was driving tumbled into the ravine, rolling multiple times before coming to a rest against a tree, the patrol said.
The collision was near mile post 50 at about 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7.
It was 38 degrees and overcast at noon Tuesday at 3,500 feet, according to National Weather Service records.
While Mount Baker Highway remained open for the first couple of hours, it was closed around 4 p.m., the Patrol said. A portion of the highway was reopened Wednesday morning.
