Canucks trade Alex Burrows to Senators for Swedish prospect

The Ottawa Senators have acquired winger Alex Burrows from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for Swedish prospect Jonathan Dahlen.

Burrows has agreed to a two-year extension with the Senators worth $2.5 million US annually, according to reports.

Burrows is in the final season of a four-year deal with a cap hit of $4.5 million and includes a no-trade clause.

Burrows, 35, has played his entire NHL career with the Canucks.

In 822 regular-season games he has 193 goals and 191 assists. He also has 19 goals and 34 points in 70 career playoff games.

Dahlen, a five-foot-11, 19-year-old forward, was a second-round pick (42nd overall) of the Senators in the 2016 draft. In 43 games with Timra of Swedish-2 this season he has 41 points (24 goals, 17 assists.)

"Jonathan is a very skilled player with natural goal-scoring instincts," Canucks general manager Jim Benning said in a release. "His offensive upside combined with his willingness to go to difficult areas of the ice will make him a valuable player for our organization moving forward."
