Canucks Prospect Officially Registered By Canada For The 2025 World Juniors
While it took a few days, Vancouver Canucks defensive prospect Sawyer Mynio is officially part of Team Canada's 2025 World Juniors roster. Mynio was one of three players not registered by Canada at the start of the tournament, joining Seattle Kraken forward prospect Carson Rehkopf and Philadelphia Flyers goaltending prospect Carson Bjarnason. According to the IIHF's roster page, Mynio was registered by Canada on December 27, 2024, and will wear number seven during the tournament.

Team Canada registering Mynio could mean that defenceman Matthew Schaefer's tournament is over. The projected 2025 lottery pick left Canada's game against Latvia on Friday during the first period with a shoulder injury. The 17-year-old defenceman played over 20 minutes in Canada's win over Finland and was projected to be a key part of the Canadian's blue line during the tournament.
Mynio joins Canada after a historic 3-2 shootout loss to Latvia. Despite outshooting Latvia 57-27, Canada could not find a way to beat Linards Feldbergs, who made 55 saves before going eight for eight in the shootout. The Canadians do have a day off today, with their next game scheduled for Sunday against the Germans.
As for Mynio, he is projected to slot into Canada's bottom pair against Germany. The Seattle Thunderbirds co-captain spent time beside San Jose Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson and Seattle Kraken prospect Caden Price during the pre-tournament and is most likely to be partnered with one of the two against Germany. Canucks fans can catch Mynio's first game with Canada on Sunday, with puck drop scheduled for 4:30 pm PT on TSN.
