The Montreal Canadiens traded Kerby Rychel to the Calgary Flames in exchange for Hunter Shinkaruk on Monday, according to the teams involved.

While the deal will not create a massive stir around the league, it does involve a pair of 23-year olds who were once highly touted prospects coming out of the junior ranks. Both players are also currently restricted free agents in need of a new deal.

Rychel, who was selected 19th overall in 2013 has only played four games in the National Hockey League over the past two seasons. He was acquired by the Canadiens as a part of the package they received from the Toronto Maple Leafs for Tomas Plekanec.

Shinkaruk, who was selected 24th overall in the same draft, did not make an appearance in the NHL last season.
