Canadian Olympian Eric Radford's ideal sports world

Coming up in today’s sports world, three-time Olympic medalist Eric Radford has been a part of a culture change. Being a gay athlete, Radford has witnessed first hand how sports, figure skating especially, have become a more accepting and inclusive space.

“I’ve seen incredible development and evolution of the attitudes towards the LGB community within sport,” the Winnipeg, Manitoba native said. And although great strides have been made, the Olympic gold medalist still believes there is significant progress still to be made.

“As we’re moving forward though, as an ultimate goal, it would be incredible to see a time when an athlete’s sexuality becomes a non-issue,” Radford noted. “[An athlete’s sexuality] isn’t something that’s needed to be talked about, but that any athlete in any sport can be comfortable to actually talk about.”

It is great to know that sports have become a more welcoming space, and as they continue to progress, develop into what Radford’s ideal sports world entails.
