Canada's Olympic men's soccer bid fell short following a 2-0 loss to Mexico in a Tokyo qualifier on Sunday.

Facing a tough, high-scoring Mexican side, Canada struggled to find its offence, while surrendering two second-half goals.

With the loss, Canada exits the U-23 tournament in Guadalajara with a 1-2-1 record, while both Mexico and Honduras – who beat the United States 2-1 in the other semi – will now represent North and Central America and the Caribbean in Tokyo.

The Canadian men's team was trying to make its first Olympic appearance since 1984 in Los Angeles.

More to come.
