Canada sets record for most non-American players selected in single NBA draft
The Canadian takeover of the NBA extends well beyond the Toronto Raptors winning their first title in franchise history last week.
Canada set a record for having the most selections from a non-American country in a single draft after R.J. Barrett, Nickeil Alexander-Walker, Brandon Clarke, Mfiondu Kabengele, Ignas Brazdeikis and Marial Shayok were all selected Thursday night.
France previously held the record with five players taken in the 2016 draft.
Barrett, Alexander-Walker, Clarke and Kabengele also entered the record books, as it marked the most Canadians taken in the first round at a single draft.

Canada previously had four players selected in 2014, including first overall selection Andrew Wiggins, who was selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers and was later traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Anthony Bennett became the first Canadian to be taken first overall in 2013, also by the Cavaliers.
