Joonas Korpisalo was another piece the Bruins landed in the trade. While he had a disastrous lone season in Ottawa, he has been off to a solid start in Boston. However, Mark Kastelic can easily be deemed the biggest surprise of the pieces the Bruins got back from Ottawa.
Kastelic was viewed as a small part of the package the Bruins got back for Ullmark. However, he is undoubtedly making a name for himself with the Bruins and becoming a big part of their forward group.
The energy Kastelic has brought in has been excellent for the Bruins. The 6-foot-4 forward has made life difficult for the Bruins' opponents, as he has thrown an impressive 79 hits in just 20 games. He has also given the Bruins more toughness, as his two fights in the club's last game against Utah Hockey Club defender Robert Bortuzzo effectively show.
Kastelic has also given the Bruins some offense in their bottom six, posting three goals, seven points, and a plus-5 rating. He has cooled off as of late, but he is still on track to surpass his current career highs of seven goals and 11 points. Thus, this increase in production pace has been a nice bonus.
Overall, Kastelic has been a pleasant surprise from the Ullmark trade for the Bruins. He is undoubtedly become a fan favorite because of his tenacious style of play, and he has been an effective part of Boston's bottom six. It will be fun to see what he does from here.
