The injuries affecting the Boston Bruins isn’t only limited to their crease. Aside from being without their top two goaltenders they were also missing Frank Vatrano, Kevan Miller and David Backes.

Backes is the newest member of the Bruins’ injured list and his situation was clarified a bit by the team on Wednesday morning.

According to GM Don Sweeney, Backes had the olecranon bursa from an elbow removed on Monday and we’ll know more about his status sometime this coming weekend.

The condition, per the American Society for Surgery of the Hand website, is when too much fluid fills in the area between the boney tip of the elbow (bursa) and the skin and becomes irritated.

That will likely mean the Bruins will be without the forward for at least two games, beginning with Wednesday’s tilt at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers. Backes hasn’t played since last Saturday’s loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Entering this week the Bruins were in the top five of man-games lost to injury, per ManGamesLost.com.
