New York Islanders forward Oliver Wahlstrom was placed on waivers today (Dec. 13), and the Boston Bruins should seriously consider claiming him.

It is no secret that the Bruins could use some help at right wing, and Wahlstrom would be a nice low-risk player with upside for them to take a chance on.
Wahlstrom, 24, is a former first-round pick who has been in need of a change of scenery for quite some time. The 6-foot-2 winger has had a tough start to the season, posting two goals and two assists in 27 games. However, a fresh start could do him wonders.
Wahlstrom has shown in the past that he has the potential to produce decent depth offense at the NHL level. For example, back in 2020-21, he had 12 goals and 21 points in 44 games. Furthermore, in 2022-23, he had seven goals and 16 points in just 35 games.
Wahlstrom is signed for the season and carries an affordable $1 million cap hit. Thus, the Portland, Maine native could be a nice young player for Boston to take a shot on.
We will need to wait and see if the Bruins put a claim in for him from here, but given their depth at right wing needing a boost, they should consider it.
