Britain's Got Talent 2023 champion Viggo Venn has defended his win after receiving backlash from both the live audience and viewers at home.

The hi-vis-wearing comedian walked away with £250,000 and a place at the Royal Variety Show over the weekend, beating out the likes of runner-up dancer Lillianna Clifton and third place finisher, magician Cillian O'Connor.

However, the audience could be heard booing Viggo after he was announced as the winner, while some viewers expressed their disappointment with the outcome over social media.

During his appearance on Lorraine today (June 7) (one day after he pulled out of his previously planned slot on Tuesday morning) Viggo admitted that he was actually "kind of hoping" he wouldn't win.

"It's not my fault I won, it's the British public," he explained. "I was kind of hoping I didn't win because it would be so embarrassing, but I was very happy when they said it. The British public have such [a] sense of ridiculous humour."

"But we need a bit of fun," Lorraine replied. "King Charles will like you, you need to get him to wear a vest he likes a bit of silly."

After his win on Sunday night (June 4), Viggo said: "I won not only the heart of Britain, but also the heart of Simon [Cowell]. Thank you to everybody who voted for me."

The final also saw BGT winner Susan Boyle return to the stage to perform 'I Dreamed a Dream' alongside X-Factor alumni Lucie Jones.

"It feels great [to be back]. It's extra special for me, last April I suffered a minor stroke and I fought to be back on stage and I have done it," Boyle said of her return to the show.

Britain's Got Talent airs on ITV1 and ITVX.
