McDonald's East All American Sadie Edwards, left, battles McDonald's West All American Brianna …

CHICAGO (AP) -- Brianna Turner came up with the big shot and a big stop when her team needed it.

The Notre Dame-bound star hit a jumper with 53 seconds left to lift the West to a 80-78 victory over the East on Wednesday night in the 13th annual McDonald's All-America girls basketball game.

Turner earned MVP honors with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The basket came off a pass from Jordin Canada, who will be headed to UCLA next year. It was the seventh assist of the game for her which broke former Duke star Jasmine Thomas' record.

''Jordin was driving and I tried to scoot to the open spot and she dished it to me and I made it.''

The East had a few chances in the closing seconds, but Turner blocked a shot and Jatarie White's foul line jumper missed with 9 seconds left. Canada came away with the rebound. She had turned it over a few seconds earlier giving the East the chance for the tying shot.

''I was mad I turned the ball over,'' Canada said. ''I had to get back on defense, try to get the rebound.''

Tennessee signee Jaime Nared led the West with 15 points.

Shakayla Thomas, who will head to Florida State next year, led the East with 19 points.

The West won despite going 0 for 20 from behind the 3-point line.

''Who would have thought that,'' West coach Randy Napier said. ''Watching them in practice if you told me they'd go 0 for 20, I'd say you're nuts. This group can shoot the ball. The defense had a little bit to do with that as well.''

Consensus high school player of the year A'ja Wilson had 10 points and nine rebounds for the East. She is still undecided with her college choice, narrowing it down to North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Connecticut. Wilson has said she'll announce her decision on April 16.

Wilson competed in the dunk contest on Monday night, but failed to convert one in her two 45-second chances.

The East trailed 32-25 late in the first half before using a 16-4 run to take a 41-36 lead. Future Tennessee player Alexa Middleton hit a 3-pointer during the burst to give the East a 37-36 lead. Middleton had a good few days. She won the skills competition Monday night, blowing through the course in 27.9 seconds. It was six seconds faster than her closest competitor. She also won the 3-point shootout, hitting nine straight shots at one point.

The West led 41-40 at the half and went up 59-51 early in the second half. The East rallied and took its first lead since early in the game on Louisville bound Myisha Hines-Allen's layup with 8:38 left.
