It’s never good when a goalie’s name is found on the second page of results for “NHL save percentage,” and yet here we are with Brian Elliott of the Calgary Flames.

Elliott’s first three games of his tenure with the Flames, after being acquired in the offseason to stabilize the goaltending position, have been putrid: a .839 save percentage and an 0-3-0 record.

He has a 4.72 goals-against average. That’s on the second page of goalie stats, too.

In fairness to Elliott – who battles his old teammates, the St. Louis Blues, at 10 p.m. ET in the Yahoo Sports Free NHL Live Stream of the Day – the Flames have looked incredibly disorganized in front of him this season.

“The easy thing is to get frustrated and to put your head down and hang your head a little bit,” Elliott said. “But what got us all here, to this league, is perseverance and that relentless attitude that no matter what happens, we’ll get it done. We keep that going and a good attitude, and we’ll be OK.”

Elliott played 181 games from 2011-16 with the Blues, capping his time there with a stellar 18-game run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. To make room for young Jake Allen as the starter, and with Elliott entering the last year of his deal, the Blues traded him to Calgary at the NHL draft for the No. 35 pick and a conditional draft choice.

The Blues are 3-1-1 out of the gate, but seeking their own consistency as well.

“We’ve got too many peaks and valleys in our game. We want to control the hockey game, not leave it up for grabs, and the last two nights we’ve left it up for grabs,” said coach Ken Hitchcock this week.

Jake Allen is 2-1-0 with a .909 save percentage. Not great. But on the first page of results.
