Brian Cashman would let Russell Wilson play in Yankees spring training game

The best quarterback in New York may have a chance to prove he’s also the best quarterback turned baseball player in New York pretty soon. New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said he has no problem letting Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson play in a Yankees spring training game.

When should we expect the Pro Bowler to take some hacks next to Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton? Probably never.

Cashman may have said he’s willing to do it, but Seahawks coach Pete Carroll might have a problem with his star player seeing time in a meaningless baseball game. Cashman admitted as much, joking to the New York Daily News that maybe Carroll would allow it after seeing Cashman’s quotes.

“Pete Carroll hasn’t reached out to me just yet, but after he sees that I’m open to it, he might make a call,” Cashman said with a laugh. “I respect the hell out of Pete Carroll, so I’d look forward to hearing from him.”

Wilson, of course, is all for it. He told USA Today he would be ready to “swing … hack away and turn some double plays” if he gets an opportunity.

That’s not going to happen. A Yankees spokesperson quickly shot down any chance of Wilson playing games while he was with the team.

Seeing Wilson play for the Yankees would be entertaining, but everyone involved knows it’s a terrible idea. No one wants to see Wilson break his ankle trying to turn a double play in a baseball game that doesn’t count.

Unless Carroll changes his mind, New York fans are all stuck with Tim Tebow for the time being. That should be a familiar feeling for them.
