Brentford boss Dean Smith is clearly impressed by what he has seen from new signing Ollie Watkins after labelling the 21-year-old striker "a hell of a player."

The Bees came from behind twice to defeat MK Dons 3-2 in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday evening, with the former Exeter City striker grabbing their second equalising goal of the game.

Watkins was not the only new signing to score, as French forward Neal Maupay got Brentford off the mark, before Florian Jozefzoon grabbed the winning goal in a team performance that pleased Smith.

"We were good on the ball, we moved it well enough." Smith told the club site.

"In the second half, I thought it was more of a team performance.

"The lads got together a bit more; if somebody made a mistake, someone else looked after them.

"That's what I said to them at half time and it's what I wanted."

When asked about the new players, Smith was keen to praise their impact and style of play.

"They've all settled in really well," he added.

"You saw Ollie Watkins, who can play in a number of positions, and he looks a hell of a player. We saw what he can do.

"It was also good to see Neal Maupay get his goal as well.

"You can see that he goes in behind, Harlee put a couple of balls over the top when we stretched them and he got on the end of them.

"We've got some very talented players that we have recruited and we're pleased."
