Report: Celtics trade Tristan Thompson to Kings in 3-way deal with Hawks

The Boston Celtics have dealt forward Tristan Thompson to the Kings, part of a three-team deal on Friday with Sacramento and the Atlanta Hawks, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

The move marks the first time in Thompson’s 10-year career that he’s been traded, and the Kings will be his third team.

The Celtics reportedly agreed to send Thompson to the Kings, and then received Kris Dunn, Bruno Fernando and a 2023 second-round pick from the Hawks in return. Atlanta then received Delon Wright from Sacramento.

Thompson averaged 7.6 points and 8.1 rebounds per game for Boston last season, his first with the team after spending his first nine years in the league with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The 30-year-old will join Sacramento just before starting center Richaun Holmes is set to become an unrestricted free agent.

Wright averaged 10.2 points and 4.3 rebounds per game last season both with the Kings and the Detroit Pistons — who traded him to Sacramento for Corey Joseph and a pair of draft picks in March.

Dunn played in only four regular season games and saw a handful of minutes throughout the Hawks’ playoff run last season while battling numerous injuries. The 27-year-old averaged 7.3 points and 3.6 rebounds during the 2019-20 season with the Chicago Bulls. Fernando appeared in 33 games for the Hawks off the bench and averaged 1.5 points and 2.4 rebounds per game last season, his second in the league.
