Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in his 150th European club match to give Real Madrid a 3-1 Champions League victory at Borussia Dortmund.

Ronaldo scored their second of the evening after a fine effort from Welshman Gareth Bale, who had put them ahead with a superb volley in the 18th minute.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang briefly pulled one back for Dortmund in the 54th minute, but Ronaldo then proceeded to kill off the match thumping the ball past keeper Roman Buerki in the 79th minute.

Real have a maximum six points from their two group matches, level with Tottenham who beat APOEL Nicosia 3-0. Bundesliga leaders Dortmund are in last place without any points, after losing their opener at Spurs.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a hat trick in Dortmund’s 6-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Saturday, which took his tally to 12 goals in 9 appearances in all competitions this season.

Although Aubameyang is yet to register in Europe this term, he scored seven during Dortmund’s run to the quarter-finals last season and 11 as they reached the same stage of the Europa League a year earlier.

Dortmund have had an impressive start to the Bundesliga season, winning five of their opening six games, and sit pretty at the top of the table.

Borussia Mönchengladbach’s consolation goal in Saturday’s 6-1 rout was the first Bosz’s side have conceded in the league this term.

In contrast, La Liga champions Real have made a poor start to the season, dropping seven points already and sit fifth. Bitter rivals Barcelona have enjoyed a perfect start to the campaign to heap more misery on Zidane’s men.

Dortmund have never lost a home game to Real, with three wins and three draws in their six home games against the Spanish giants.

They were the last team to take points of Zidane’s side in the Champions League group stages, drawing 2-2 with Real at the Bernabeu in December after also holding them at home just over two months earlier.

The two sides also met in the 2012/13 semi-finals, when Dortmund’s 4-1 home win helped them to a 4-3 aggregate victory as the German side advanced to the Wembley final.
