Bono’s son on the pros and cons of being in a band when your dad is a rock superstar

U2 singer Bono’s son has said being the child of a rock superstar is both a blessing and a curse as he launches his own band.

Elijah Hewson, 20, who fronts Irish group Inhaler, has revealed there are pros and cons to being in a band as the son of one of music’s most recognisable stars.

The band have so far only released a few singles, but have already bagged support slots with Oasis legend Noel Gallagher, and Stockport indie band Blossoms.

Inhaler have been billed as ‘ones to watch’ for 2020 by many outlets, including NME, Amazon Music, Radio X and the BBC and the guitar-based four piece have today (5 January) been announced as number five in the BBC Sounds of 2020 list.

Speaking to the BBC about the band, and input of dad Bono, Hewson Jnr. said: “A lot of U2 fans do come to our gigs, who are all really lovely. They've all been really supportive, so obviously that's a benefit.

“But I'd say it can also be an obstacle as well if you're trying to do stuff your own way. But we're not complaining at all.”

And does dad Bono, real name Paul Hewson, get involved or offer tips on being a success?

Eli added: “I’d never ask him for advice - only advice about where am I going to live next year and that sort of thing. I try not to ask him about music.”

The group former while the members were still as school and the bonded over a love of the 90s Britpop scene and the Madchester sound.

Their most recent release is single Ice Cream Sundae which is out now.

Inhaler will undertake a headline tour in February and March, playing venue across Britain and Europe, including gigs in London, Paris Madrid and Antwerp.

Another one of Bono’s children is actress Eve Hewman, who starred alongside Taron Egerton as Maid Marion in the 2018 film Robin Hood.
