Boise State has suspended safety Dylan Sumner-Gardner for four games “as a result of failing to meet NCAA football academic eligibility requirements,” according to a release by the school.

Sumner-Gardner, a sophomore, has had a rough year. He was forced to redshirt the 2015 season after suffering a season-ending ankle injury during the fourth game of the season against Virginia. During a traffic stop in November, he was charged with misdemeanor drug possession, and he pled guilty in February.

Junior Cameron Hartsfield is listed as the starter for the Broncos’ season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette. Sumner-Gardner also will miss games against Washington State, Oregon State and Utah State.
