Bo Horvat attracts good karma, piles up points against Bruins

The hockey gods seem to smile on those that are kind to young hockey fans. Whether NHL players are tossing pucks over the glass during warmups or handing out fist bumps before the puck drops, it’s possible that they’re scoring some points with the sport’s powers that be in the process.

Vancouver Canucks star and all-around good guy Bo Horvat appears to be very much aware of the impact that a kind gesture can have. Before his squad’s tilt against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden, he signed one of his sticks and gave it to a young Canucks fan that was watching.

As the only person in that area in Vancouver’s colours, you have to give this kid some credit. At the very least he now has a weapon if all of the Bruins fan around him get a little too rambunctious.

It’s unclear what was written on the sign to earn him the twig. If I had to toss out a guess, it would probably be something along the lines of “I bet Bo Horvat will score in the game’s first five minutes”, though.

That would have been good to toss some money on:

Less than three minutes into the first period, Horvat took advantage of a poor Bruins breakout and snapped the puck past Jaroslav Halak to open the game’s scoring.

In the process, the 23-year-old broke a six game goal drought. At the time, that was his eighth tally of the season.

Things were pretty quiet in the rink after the goal, but it’s safe to assume that at least one fan with an autographed twig in his hand was cheering.

And he had plenty of additional reasons to make noise the rest of the way.

Horvat netted his second of the night and ninth of the year while Vancouver was shorthanded midway through the third. It wasn’t pretty, but that’s what you get when you’re nice to those that support you:

He finished with two goals and a couple of assists to lead the Canucks to a 8-5 win. It was the second four point regular season game of his career. The first was a one goal, three assist night against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Nov. 4, 2017.

Unfortunately, there’s no word on whether or not he also signed a stick before that contest.
