Blue Jays' Morales ties club record, homers in six straight games

Kendrys Morales is giving fans of the Toronto Blue Jays something to cheer about in the late stages of a forgettable season.

The 35-year old slugger smashed a home run for the sixth-straight game on Saturday afternoon, tying José Cruz Jr. for the record of most consecutive games with a blast. Cruz had been the lone holder of the record 2001.

Simply put, Morales has been an absolute nightmare for pitchers. Entering Saturday’s matinee, he had a batting average of .500 to go along with six home runs over the past five games.

The 11-year pro has now tied Matt Carpenter of the St. Louis Cardinals for the most consecutive games while going yard this season.

The six-game run the Blue Jays’ DH is currently on is close to the MLB record of eight-straight games. The only three players in Major League history to accomplish the feat are Ken Griffey Jr. with the Seattle Mariners, Don Mattingly with the New York Yankees, and Dale Long with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The home run, Morales’ 20th of the season, marks the fourth straight campaign that the switch-hitter has recorded 20 or more round trippers.
