Blue Jays manager Montoyo pauses press conference to watch son's graduation
Toronto Blue Jays manager Charlie Montoyo wasn’t going to let some silly press conference get in the way of a major family milestone.
Montoyo was addressing the media on Friday following Toronto's rain-shortened 11-2 victory over the Cleveland Indians, then suddenly paused the session to retrieve his laptop and watch his son’s high school graduation over a Zoom call.
"I don't want to miss it," Montoyo said with a proud smile on his face.

Montoyo noted that only one parent was allowed to be present for the ceremony due to COVID-19 restrictions, hence why he wasn’t there. While not quite the same as attending in person, jumping on a Zoom call has become a common practice for many during the pandemic, and he was still able to see his son walk across the stage.
The Blue Jays skipper will have lots of time to celebrate the accomplishment with his son on Saturday — virtually or otherwise — as Toronto’s game against Cleveland was postponed due to inclement weather.
