With their pitching depth being tested due to injuries, the Toronto Blue Jays acquired right-hander Edwin Jackson from the Oakland Athletics Saturday in exchange for cash considerations.

The Blue Jays will be the 14th team Jackson has played for, which will represent a new MLB record once he takes the mound. The 35-year-old made 17 starts for Oakland in 2018, pitching to a 3.33 ERA. He has not appeared in a major-league game in 2019.

For his career, the veteran has posted a 104-123 record with a 4.60 ERA in nearly 1,900 career innings at the MLB level.

Jackson was briefly a member of the Blue Jays organization in 2011, but was quickly traded to the St. Louis Cardinals as part of the deal that sent Colby Rasmus north of the border.

Toronto is in dire need of someone to log innings, with starters Matt Shoemaker, Clay Buchholz, Ryan Borucki and Clayton Richard already on the injured list.

According to Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae, Jackson could be playing for the Blue Jays as soon as next week:
