Blind USC long snapper Jake Olson drives car at Charlotte Motor Speedway

USC long snapper Jake Olson got to fulfill his need for speed this week.

Olson did a ride-along with former NASCAR Truck Series champion Todd Bodine at Charlotte Motor Speedway and even drove a passenger car on the track.

Olson will be in attendance at Friday night’s Camping World Truck Series race and appeared Wednesday on Fox’s Race Hub to discuss his time on the track.

“It was awesome,” Olson said. “I told Todd that I had been behind [the wheel of] a car in a parking lot just going maybe 10, 15 miles per hour and just kind of feeling out the brakes … but to be out there on a speedway and obviously one of that stature was amazing and to be able to drive on it was special and we got — on the straightaway we got going to 60 miles per hour. To be behind the wheel of a car going that fast was fun. I don’t know where else you could do that.”

Olson lost his sight after he was diagnosed with retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer. He walked on to the USC football team and snapped for an extra point in Week 1 of the 2017 season during a blowout of Western Michigan.
