Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes fined over $50K for confrontation with official

NFL official Roy Ellison wasn’t the only person to be punished for a post-game confrontation with a player. Buffalo Bills defensive end Jerry Hughes received a fine from the league for his actions following the Bills’ loss in Week 13.

Hughes will pay $53,482 for his actions, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

The 30-year-old Hughes confronted Ellison following the Bills’ 21-17 loss to the Miami Dolphins. Cameras caught Hughes telling Ellison, “You called me a bitch.”

Ellison was placed on administrative leave. It was the second time in his career Ellison has been suspended for using a derogatory term toward a player.

When the league announced the Ellison decision, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Hughes would not be suspended for confronting Ellison. Hughes will be eligible to play in Week 14, but his checkbook will be a bit lighter by game time.
