Beyond Paradise series 1 finale spoilers follow.

Beyond Paradise viewers will be getting a proper Death in Paradise crossover much sooner than expected.

Following a bombshell penultimate episode on Friday night (March 31), the BBC has released a first-look clip from next week's finale, showing Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) returning to Saint Marie.

Humphrey is amazed as he revisits his old Inspector House to find his lizard friend Harry waiting for him on the porch.

"Hello, old friend," Harvey beams with a big smile.

While it remains to be seen exactly what draws Humphrey back to his old home in Saint Marie, he is set to tackle a perplexing case in the finale.

The Shipton Abbott police team investigates a burglary that seemingly points to local criminal Atticus Styles (Upstart Crow's Spencer Jones), only for the forensic evidence to single out someone else entirely.

Humphrey has to solve what looks like an impossible mystery because the other suspect, Hayley Collins (Boiling Point's Hannah Traylen), was in a jail cell being watched by PC Kelby Hartford (Dylan Llewellyn) at the time of the crime.

As he tries to wrap his mind around the case, Humphrey remains consumed with his doubts about life in Shipton Abbott with Martha (Sally Bretton).

"I was honoured and delighted to return to Guadeloupe as part of Humphrey's journey in Beyond Paradise, and to rekindle my deep passion for the island," Marshall has said.

Death in Paradise showrunners Tony Jordan and Tim Key previously hinted to Digital Spy that they wanted Beyond Paradise to "stand in its own right" before there were any visits to Saint Marie.

"It's not just a little off-shoot of Death in Paradise and a little fluffy thing. It's actually a show with a real integrity to itself. We understand the Death in Paradise audience — we know that they really want to find out what happened to Humphrey and Martha," Jordan told us.

"When we saw them walk off into the sunset, we all wondered how they were going to get on and how it was going to work," he continued.

"We're keen to give those treats where we can, but it's equally important to us that the show stands on its own."
