Benson Henderson and Thiago Alves Headline Inaugural UFC Event in Seoul

In May, the Ultimate Fighting Championship announced that it would hold its first event in Seoul, South Korea, at the city’s Olympic Park Gymnastics Arena. On Monday, the organization revealed that former WEC and UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson would face veteran welterweight contender Thiago Alves in the fight card’s main event on Nov. 28.

Henderson (22-5) made his welterweight debut in February, defeating Brandon Thatch by rear-naked choke. He hopes to prove that he’s a force in the 170-pound division by taking out Alves in Seoul.

Alves (26-10) had put together a two-fight winning streak after returning from injuries that kept him out of competition for two years before losing to top contender Carlos Condit in May. Alves will be looking to get back in the win column and return to contention when he faces Henderson.

Heavyweights Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic (31-11-2, 1 NC) and Anthony Hamilton (14-4) make up the co-main event. Also on the main card, Korea’s own Dong Hyun “The Stun Gun” Kim (20-3-1) will take on Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal (29-9-0). Japanese superstar Yoshihiro Akiyama (14-5) faces undefeated Alberto “Soldier of God” Mina (11-0) in a welterweight bout.
