Bengals' Vontaze Burfict has no f-bombs to give for Steelers

If you have any memory of how the Cincinnati Bengals’ season ended, then you might understand why Vontaze Burfict might be hesitant to discuss the Pittsburgh Steelers in great depth.

The Bengals fell completely apart in the final 90 seconds of the home playoff loss to their rivals, and Burfict had a hand in it. After a Bengals fumble, 15-yard penalties by Burfict and Adam Jones put an injured Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers in the unexpected position of stealing the game.

Plain and simple, it was an incredible meltdown by a team that hasn’t won a playoff game since the 1990 season. Hence Burfict’s frustration, which came out in what he had to say to The MMQB.

When asked if he harbored any ill will toward the Steelers, Burfict said it rather plainly:

“I don’t give no [expletives] about them,” Burfict said. “Zero. You can write that, too. I don’t give no [expletives] about them. They’re just another team. They don’t scare me. Just another team.”

That’s great. And rather Burfictian. He’s known for being blunt, on and off the field after all.

Of course, his brutal hit on Antonio Brown in that game — not his first offense — earned Burfict a three-game suspension. That means he’ll miss the first Bengals-Steelers game in Week 2 on Sept. 18. That one is in Pittsburgh; the rematch back in Cincinnati, the scene of the meltdown, comes in Week 15 — the week prior to Christmas.

As for Burfict, the suspension didn’t appear to have a huge effect on him, even though he’s trying to get better.

“[Expletive], I didn’t really care. You’ve got to learn from your mistakes. That’s it,” Burfict said.
