Ben Bishop loses two front teeth off Peter Holland blast (Video)

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Ben Bishop lost his two front teeth and stayed in his team’s Tuesday contest against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Lightning won the game 7-3.

With 6:38 left in the second period, Bishop took a hard shot from Leafs forward Peter Holland in the mask and went down. The trainer then came out to take a look at Bishop who got up and showed the impact of the puck knocked out his two front teeth.

“It wasn’t really super painful or anything like that,” Bishop said after the game. “These guys in front of me lose teeth all the time, so I guess I just wanted to be like them.”

Goaltender masks are created to take the impact of pucks, so generally those players don’t lose their teeth from shots. Also the mask covers a player’s mouth.

There was the strange situation where in the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs where both Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price and Ottawa Senators netminder Craig Anderson lost teeth. Anderson lost his tooth when he took a shot from then Canadiens forward Rene Bourque in Game 1. Price lost his teeth when he took a skate in the mask from Jared Tinordi in Game 2.
