Baseball world mourns death of Cardinals legend Bob Gibson
The baseball world lost one of its most beloved, feared, inspiring and dominant figures on Friday with the death of St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer Bob Gibson.
Few players have ever shaped the game like Gibson, whose all-time great 1968 season was the spearhead of the “Year of the Pitcher” that pushed MLB into lowering the mound to its current height. In a 17-year career, all with the Cardinals, Gibson won two World Series, two Cy Young Awards, one MVP, nine All-Star selections and nine Gold Gloves. He basically is the Cardinals’ pitching record book.
Fellow Cardinals great Yadier Molina was in tears talking about Gibson after the team’s Game 3 loss on Friday:
Yadi on the passing of Bob Gibson: "The game is a game. You can lose a game but when you lose a guy like Bob Gibson, it's just hard. I wish his family the best. We lost another one, Cardinal Nation lost another one." pic.twitter.com/lXn6qxzQ7r

Few greats are as idolized as much as Gibson was among MLB players, and that was clear as the tributes started rolling in for a departed legend.
Rip Mr Bob Gibson! We will miss you dearly. A standard setter on the mound your entire career and one of the most feared competitors to ever play the game of baseball! I totally enjoyed my conversations with you in Cooperstown. #Thanksforeverything#TrueLegend#Godbless

RIP Gibby. He had a huge influence on me as a competitor. I’m sad I won’t be able to experience his intensity again in person. I will always carry his advice with me. I use his words of wisdom daily. 🙏🏼
