Baseball-Hightlights of Thursday's MLB games

April 28 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Thursday's Major League Baseball games. Marlins 5, Dodgers 3 Giancarlo Stanton and J.T. Realmuto homered, and the Miami Marlins earned their first four-game sweep of the Los Angeles Dodgers with a 5-3 victory on Thursday at Dodger Stadium. Dee Gordon's RBI single to left initiated the comeback, plating Realmuto to knot the score at 2 with two outs in the seventh. That chased Dodgers starter Kenta Maeda, who wound up charged with a season-high four runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk in 6 2/3 innings. Maeda (3-1) allowed just one run in his previous four starts covering 25 1/3 innings. Cubs 7, Brewers 2 Jake Arrieta missed out on a second straight no-hitter but was still typically effective in a relatively short outing as the Chicago Cubs beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-2 on Thursday. Arrieta improved to 5-0 while giving up one run, three hits and four walks and striking out six in a five-inning outing. Phillies 3, Nationals 0 Cameron Rupp hit a two-run, bases-loaded double in the ninth inning to break a scoreless tie and Philadelphia beat Washington, sweeping the three-game series. The last time the Phillies swept a series in Washington was in May 2009. Tigers 7, Athletics 3 Anthony Gose hit a two-run homer to lead the revived Detroit offense and the Tigers downed Oakland. Gose also doubled and scored another run, and Nick Castellanos had two doubles and knocked in a run. Ian Kinsler notched his American League-leading 11th multi-hit game while scoring two runs and driving in another for the Tigers, who scored at least seven runs for the third time in four games while taking the series 3-1. Orioles 10, White Sox 2 Manny Machado hit a grand slam and drove in five runs as the Baltimore Orioles homered three times en route to a 10-2 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. Machado hit his grand slam in a five-run sixth off Jake Petricka and added an RBI double earlier as the Orioles ended Chicago's six-game winning streak on a cold and rainy night. Braves 5, Red Sox 3 Nick Markakis, one of the few bright spots in Atlanta's disastrous start, delivered four hits and drove in three runs and rookie Mallex Smith added two RBIs as the Braves ended their eight-game losing streak with a 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Thursday. The win, which snapped a four-game Red Sox winning streak, salvaged the fourth game of the two-city four-game series between the teams and lifted the woeful Braves to 5-17 on the season. Diamondbacks 3, Cardinals 0 Chris Herrmann and Brandon Drury homered, and Rubby De La Rosa pitched seven scoreless innings in the Arizona Diamondbacks' 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday at Chase Field. Herrmann hit a two-run homer in the second inning, and Drury hit a bases-empty homer in the fourth off right-hander Michal Wacha (2-1). De La Rosa (3-3) gave up two hits and two walks and had a career-high 10 strikeouts in his longest outing of the year. Rockies-Pirates postponed The series finale was postponed due to inclement weather. The Pirates had won the first three games, outscoring the Rockies 24-13 and stretching their winning streak at Coors Field to eight games dating to July 27, 2014. No makeup date was announced.
