April 19 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Saturday's Major League Baseball games: - - - Blue Jays 5, Indians 0 Left-hander Mark Buehrle pitched four-hit ball over seven scoreless innings and catcher Dioner Navarro had two hits and three runs batted in to lead the Toronto Blue Jays to victory over the Cleveland Indians. Buehrle struck out three and walked three in improving his record to 4-0 and lowering his ERA to 0.64. In the first inning right fielder Jose Bautista singled to right, giving Toronto a 1-0 lead and then was driven home by Navarro to make it 2-0. The Blue Jays extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning while the Indians threatened to score in each of the first two innings, but Buehrle pitched out of trouble both times, then settled in to dominate the Cleveland lineup over his last five innings. - - - Cardinals 4, Nationals 3 Starting pitcher Lance Lynn pitched into the sixth inning and had a key RBI, and backup catcher Tony Cruz had a two-run single as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals. Lynn (4-0) entered the game with a career ERA of 9.82 against the Nationals in three games, with one start, in 2012. He went 5 2/3 innings and allowed five hits and one run. The pitcher helped himself when the Cardinals scored three unearned runs in the second. Cruz hit a two-run single and Lynn followed with a run-scoring double down the right field line to make it 3-0 against Washington starter Jordan Zimmermann (1-1). - - - Tigers 5, Angels 2 Rookie Nick Castellanos and veteran Victor Martinez hit home runs and reigning Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer broke through for his first victory in his fourth start of the season to pace the Detroit Tigers to a victory over the Los Angeles Angels. Scherzer gave up a home run to left fielder J.B. Shuck to open the game but leadoff singles in the second and third innings were the only other hits he allowed. He struck out nine and walked two in seven innings. First baseman Albert Pujols of the Angels hit his sixth home run of the season, the second in two games and 498th of his career to make it 5-2 with one out in the ninth. - - - Red Sox 4, Orioles 2 The bottom of Boston's lineup came through in a big way in the seventh inning to lead the Red Sox to a victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Third baseman Brock Holt, the number seven hitter who was summoned from Triple-A Pawtucket on Friday, broke a 2-2 tie with an RBI triple and infielder Jonathan Herrera followed with a successful safety squeeze. The Red Sox, in last place in the AL East coming in, won for the third time in their last four games. The triple was Holt's second hit of the game, his third in the two games since his recall. Designated hitter David Ortiz hit a solo homer (his third of the season) for the Red Sox, while left fielder Nelson Cruz had a pair of RBI singles for Baltimore . - - - Royals 5, Twins 4 The Kansas City Royals put five runs on the board in the fourth inning and that proved to be enough as they extended their winning streak to five games with a victory over the Minnesota Twins. Starting pitcher Bruce Chen (1-1) battled through five innings (eight hits and four walks) to pick up the win. The Royals' bullpen pitched four scoreless innings, retiring the last 12 batters they faced, and Greg Holland picked up his sixth save in six chances. The Royals extended a remarkable record. They are 9-0 in games in which they have scored at least four runs, and they are 0-7 in games with three or fewer runs. - - - Cubs 8, Reds 4 After scoring only one run in their previous three games, the Chicago Cubs' offense woke up as Mike Olt, Darwin Barney and Welington Castillo hit home runs, matching their season-high total for runs in a victory over the Cincinnati Reds. The Cubs snapped a five-game losing streak while the Reds saw their three-game winning streak end. The Cubs built a 3-0 lead through five innings before the Reds cut the lead to 3-2 in the sixth. Devin Mesoraco hit an RBI double and another run scored on Zack Cozart's groundout. But the Reds stranded a runner at third when pinch hitter Brayan Pena flew out to shallow right to end the inning. - - - Athletics 4, Astros 3 The first-place Oakland Athletics bumbled in the field and stranded runners left and right much of the day against the last-place Houston Astros but still pulled out a last-minute victory. Trailing 3-1 Jed Lowrie led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo homer to cut the Astros' lead to one, then Josh Donaldson walked, Yoenis Cespedes singled and Alberto Callaspo tied the score with a base hit to center. Josh Reddick followed with a game-winning single to right-center.
