The Royals scored four times in the seventh, taking advantage of a two misplays by the Twins in the field. Minnesota was officially eliminated from the American League wild card race. The Twins had been two games behind the Houston Astros for the second wild card spot before the game. - - Orioles 9, Yankees 2 (1st game) Gerardo Parra got four hits and three RBIs while Manny Machado homered and also drove in three runs as the Baltimore Orioles rolled to victory over the New York Yankees in the first part of a double header. Parra finished 4-for-5 with his three RBIs. Machado went 2-for-5, including a solo homer in the fifth. - - Orioles 4, Yankees 3 (2nd game) Paul Janish scored on the second wild pitch of the eighth inning by New York's Dellin Betances to give the Baltimore Orioles a 4-3 victory over the Yankees and complete a sweep of their double header. New York (87-74) needed only one win to clinch the home-field advantage in the wild-card playoff. - - Nationals 3, Mets 1 (1st game) Center fielder Bryce Harper launched a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning as the Washington Nationals beat the New York Mets in the opener of a double header. - - Nationals 2, Mets 0 (2nd game) Max Scherzer made history when he threw his second no-hitter of the season in a 2-0 win over the New York Mets in the second game of a double header. Scherzer, who tossed a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 20, is just the sixth pitcher in history to throw two no-hitters in the same season. - - Angels 11, Rangers 10 The Los Angeles Angels rallied for five runs in the ninth inning to dash the Texas Rangers' hopes of clinching the American League West. Texas led 10-6 going into the ninth before the Angels hit back-to-back homers off Texas closer Shawn Tolleson. The Rangers can still clinch the West with a Houston loss on Saturday or Sunday, or a win over the Angels on Sunday. - - Giants 3, Rockies 2 Second baseman Kelby Tomlinson hit the ninth inside-the-park home run at AT&T Park in the first inning, which propelled the San Francisco Giants to a 3-2 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Right fielder Marlon Byrd and shortstop Brandon Crawford also had solo homers for the Giants, while Jake Peavy allowed four hits and just one run in five innings. Peavy (8-6) walked one and struck out two. - - Marlins 7, Phillies 6 (1st game) The Miami Marlins rallied for two runs in the ninth inning to beat the Philadelphia Phillies in the first game of a double header. Yelich had three hits in his first three at-bats, following a 5-for-5 performance in the first game. His eight hits in eight consecutive at-bats tied Preston Wilson, who also had eight successive hits for the Marlins in 2001, for the franchise record. - - Rays 4, Blue Jays 3 Tampa Bay second baseman Tim Beckham delivered a two-out single in the ninth inning to drive home the winning runs as the Rays stunned American League East champions Toronto. The Blue Jays (93-68) fell one game behind Kansas City, who beat Minnesota earlier, in the race for the best record in the American League. - - Reds 3, Pirates 1 Brandon Finnegan pitched a career-high six innings as the Cincinnati Reds ended a 13-game losing streak, their longest since 1945, with a 3-1 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Pirates loss spoiled the final regular-season start of A.J. Burnett's 17-year career. The 38-year-old right-hander has stated his intent to retire after this season. Finnegan (2-2) gave up one run and three hits in six innings. The right-hander walked two and struck out six. - - Cubs 1, Brewers 0 Kyle Hendricks struck out eight as the Chicago Cubs kept their hopes of hosting the National League wild card game alive with a 1-0 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers. Chicago (96-65) is one game behind Pittsburgh in the wild-card race after the Pirates lost 3-1 to the Cincinnati Reds. Hendricks (8-7) was perfect through 5-1/3 innings. - - Indians 2, Red Sox 0 Corey Kluber pitched eight scoreless innings as the Cleveland Indians beat the Boston Red Sox. Cleveland's runs came on solo home runs, by first baseman Carlos Santana and designated hitter Ryan Raburn. Kluber, the 2014 American League Cy Young Award winner who has been plagued by a lack of run support this season, struck out nine and walked two. - - White Sox 4, Tigers 3 Designated hitter Leury Garcia flipped a single to left field in the bottom of the ninth inning to score J.B. Shuck as the Chicago White Sox beat the Detroit Tigers. The White Sox scored twice in the ninth after falling behind 3-2 in the top half of the inning. The Tigers took the lead on a pinch-hit double by catcher James McCann, whose hit off left-hander Dan Jennings scored Rajai Davis from second. - - Dodgers 2, Padres 1 Third baseman Justin Turner homered as the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched home-field advantage for the opening round of the National League playoffs with a 2-1 victory over the San Diego Padres. The Dodgers' win, combined with the New York Mets being beaten twice by the Washington Nationals, means Los Angeles(91-70) will host the Mets (89-72) in the first two games of the NL Division Series. Zack Greinke (19-3) held the Padres to a run on four hits with eight strikeouts and a walk in eight innings. - - Astros 6, Diamondbacks 2 Colby Rasmus homered twice while Collin McHugh threw seven strong innings to help lead the Houston Astros past the Arizona Diamondbacks to keep the Astros' division title hopes alive. Jose Altuve doubled, homered and scored twice for the Astros, who remain one game behind the Texas Rangers in the AL West with only Sunday's games remaining. Houston also stayed a game ahead of the Los Angeles Angels for the AL's second wild card spot. McHugh (19-7) held the Diamondbacks to one run on six hits over seven innings while striking out five. - - A's 7, Mariners 5 (13 innings) Shortstop Marcus Semien hit a two-run homer in the top of the 13th inning to give the Oakland A's the lead for good on the way to a 7-5 win over the Seattle Mariners.
