April 14 (The Sports Xchange) - Highlights of Monday's Major League Baseball games. - - - Cardinals 4, Brewers 0 Jon Jay hit a three-run home run and right-hander Lance Lynn struck out 11 as the St Louis Cardinals snapped the Milwaukee Brewers' nine-game winning streak with a 4-0 shutout. Lynn held Milwaukee to three hits and three walks over seven innings. Jay's home run capped off a big sixth inning for the Cardinals (8-5), who overcame two defensive gems by the Brewers to score three runs against Milwaukee right-hander Matt Garza. Jean Segura managed two of the three hits for the Brewers (10-3). - - - Braves 9, Phillies 6 Dan Uggla's ninth-inning grand slam gave the Atlanta Braves a wild win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Evan Gattis also hit a pair of homers for the Braves who delivered back-to-back-to-back blasts to take a 5-1 lead in the top of the eighth. The Phillies countered with five runs in the bottom half of the inning to grab a 6-5 advantage. The Braves (9-4) won their fourth game in a row, while the Phillies (6-7) saw their three-game winning streak come to an end. - - - Mariners 7, Rangers 1 The Seattle Mariners scored six runs in the sixth in support of left-hander Roenis Elias, who shut down the Texas Rangers to earn his first major-league victory. The Mariners (7-5) sent 11 hitters to the plate in the sixth and put the game out of reach with five hits, a walk and two errors in chasing Rangers (6-7) right-hander Colby Lewis and a reliever. Elias (1-1) gave up one run on five hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. - - - Nationals 9, Marlins 2 The Washington Nationals pounded out 11 extra-base hits, including three triples and two homers, to defeat the Miami Marlins. Among the Nationals' (8-5) 16 total hits was catcher Sandy Leon's first career homer, a solo shot to right. Nationals center fielder Bryce Harper went 3-for-4 with a single, double and triple. He was removed in the seventh inning a home run shy of hitting for the cycle. Jordan Zimmermann (1-0) tossed seven innings for the win as Miami (5-9) lost their eighth straight. - - - Orioles 7, Rays 1 Baltimore's Wei-Yin Chen bounced back from two shaky starts, allowing just one run over 6 1/3 innings, and the Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays. Chen (1-1) had not pitched past the sixth inning in his previous two outings for Baltimore (6-7). He got run support from catcher Matt Wieters who continued his dominance over Tampa Bay (7-7) pitching and finished with three hits, an RBI and two runs. - - - Pirates 7, Reds 7 (suspended) The Pittsburgh Pirates and Cincinnati Reds combined for 10 home runs during a wild six innings on Monday night before steady rain resulted in a suspension. There was a one-hour, 38-minute rain delay before the game was suspended. The game will be resumed at 5:30 p.m. ET (2100 GMT) on Tuesday in the top of the seventh inning. - - - A's 3, Angels 2 Pinch-hitter John Jaso smashed a two-run home run with one out in the ninth inning, propelling the Oakland A's to victory over the Los Angeles Angels. After A's starter Jesse Chavez threw seven innings, Jim Johnson (1-2) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to get the win, and Luke Gregerson pitched the ninth for the save. Oakland improved to 9-4. Albert Pujols had two hits and both RBIs for the Angels (6-7). - - - Mets 7, Diamondbacks 3 Lucas Duda tied a career high with four hits and drove in two runs as New York earned a win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Mets right-hander Zack Wheeler (1-2) gave up two runs and struck out three in 6 1/3 innings for his first victory since Sept. 6, snapping a career-worst four-game losing streak. The Mets (6-7) improved to 4-3 on a nine-game road trip that ends against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Catcher Miguel Montero had three hits and a sacrifice fly and drove in all three runs for Arizona (4-12), which lost its fourth game in a row. - - - Padres 5, Rockies 4 Scoring two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning without collecting a hit, the San Diego Padres defeated the Colorado Rockies. The Padres loaded the bases in the eighth then scored on a wild pitch and errant throw. Colorado (6-8) led 4-0 before the Padres (6-7) responded with five unanswered runs. (Editing by John O'Brien)
