Barcelona, PSG Transfer Target Gives Contract Extension Blow to Bayern Munich
Paris Saint-Germain have been keeping a close eye on Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich in recent months, with reports from Germany indicating that a transfer nearly went through last summer.
As the January transfer window approaches, the latest update has surfaced regarding if the player is any close to extending his contract with the German side.
PSG aren’t alone in their pursuit, though. Barcelona are also interested in Kimmich, along with Bayer Leverkusen’s Jonathan Tah, as they look to strengthen their midfield and defense ahead of the 2025 season.
Kimmich’s situation at Bayern has changed since Vincent Kompany took over as head coach. Once expected to leave when his contract expires next summer, the versatile German, who can play both in midfield and at right-back, now faces an uncertain future.
According to TBR Football, Bayern Munich are doing everything they can to avoid Kimmich leaving on a free transfer next year.
Joshua Kimmich gets a win over Bayern Munich in negotiations
Journalists Christian Falk and Tobi Altschäffl report that Bayern Munich have stopped attempting to persuade Joshua Kimmich to take a pay cut on his €20 million annual salary.
The club are aware that Kimmich is attracting interest from other top clubs, and with his contract expiring next year, it’s unlikely he would agree to a salary reduction.
Bayern are no longer trying to convince Joshua Kimmich to take a pay cut on his salary, estimated at around €20m gross per year. Kimmich has no plans to sign a contract extension before the end of this year. Starting January 1st, he will be free to negotiate with other clubs, giving him a stronger position in talks with Bayern Munich.
