Barcelona preparing opening offer for Hansi Flick target Jeremie Frimpong

Barcelona hope to return to La Liga’s 1:1 for the start of the summer transfer window, which opens on the 1st of July. If they are able to do so, it gives them a better chance of signing the players desired by new manager Hansi Flick.

One of those targets identified by Flick is Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong, who had an outstanding 2023-24 season with the newly-crowned Bundesliga champions. He sees the Dutch international as a better option than Joao Cancelo, who could end up returning to Catalonia for a second spell later in the summer.

As per Sport, Barcelona do not expect Leverkusen to completely fixed on Frimpong’s release clause, which is believed to be worth €40m. With that in mind, they intend to offer €30m, with €5m in add-ons. Furthermore, Ansu Fati would not be included, as the idea is for Flick to assess him during pre-season.

Frimpong would be a very curious signing for Flick and Barcelona. He’d certainly provide plenty of attacking quality, but there would be obvious concerns about his defending. Overall, it could be a net positive for club officials.
