Aston Villa are close to finalising an agreement to sign Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

That is according to the Athletic’s David Ornstein, who says that a deal worth in the region of £50 million is nearing completion and that personal terms have already been agreed between Villa and the 22-year-old.

Onana is said to be a key target for Unai Emery, who is looking to upgrade his Villa squad ahead of their first Champions League campaign in over 40 years.

The Belgian international, who featured at EURO 2024, joined Everton in 2022 and has since become an integral player, making 72 appearances. If he is sold, former club Lille will be entitled to 20% of the profit made from his original £30m fee.

Villa have already made major changes to their midfield this summer, with Ross Barkley rejoining the club from Luton and Enzo Barrenechea signing from Juventus, a move which saw Douglas Luiz go the other way.
