As Niners head into season finale, more reports of discord is discussion of the day

On Saturday night, as most were celebrating New Year’s Eve, someone in the San Francisco 49ers organization was dropping dimes to reporters, leaking the news that housecleaning would commence, with general manager Trent Baalke and head coach Chip Kelly set to be fired.

Baalke confirmed his pink slip on Sunday in a radio interview with KNBR.

Whoever tipped off the media on Saturday night did so before the men involved were notified of their fates.

According to NFL Network’s Mike Silver, after the reports of Baalke and Kelly’s firing went live, Kelly called San Francisco CEO Jed York. The conversation did not go well.

Kelly is the third coach York has fired in as many years; while it’s hard to pin the Niners’ two-win record this season entirely on Kelly because he walked into an absolute mess of York and Baalke’s creation, firing Baalke meant Kelly almost certainly had to go as well.

But what the heck will it be like for Kelly and the 49ers as they play the Seahawks on Sunday?

As for Baalke, he told KNBR that he plans on attending Sunday’s season finale.
