Arsenal show class with gifts after non-league Youth Cup clash
Arsenal gave some gifts to Hertford Town after the FA Youth Cup clash between their two academies last week, the host club has confirmed.
Arsenal took on Hertford Town in the FA Youth Cup third round last week, with the non-league academy side hosting an exciting encounter between the two teams.
Though Arsenal didn’t suffer the same fate as Bristol Rovers in the last round, who were eliminated by Hertford 4-3, the scoreline was the same. It was just in the Gunners’ favour this time.
Writing on social media the day after the game, Hertford revealed that Arsenal had made some efforts to thank their side for the fixture.
“A big thank you to Arsenal and the Arsenal academy for the enthralling FA Youth Cup tie last night,” Hertford began.
“As well as providing some lovely gifts to some of our volunteers we also received a signed shirt. A classy touch and greatly appreciated.
“Hopefully we meet again soon.”
Over 1,000 fans turned up to watch the two teams on Tuesday night, with the match selling out within hours of the tickets going on sale.
Andre Harriman-Annous scoring in the seventh minute, turning in a rebound after Dan Casey’s shot hit the crossbar. Hertford equalised, but Arsenal took a two-goal advantage into the half-time break after Casey and Louie Copley both netted late in the first 45.
Hertford responded in the second half by scoring a penalty in the 54th minute, before Casey scored his second of the game from distance for 4-2.
The hosts capitalised on an Arsenal error for 4-3 in the 85th minute, but the Gunners managed to hold on through 10 minutes of added time to reach the fourth round.
The fourth-round draw will take place soon, with the game to be played in January.
