Arkansas quarterback Ricky Town will transfer following the Belk Bowl, coach Bret Bielema said Sunday night.

Town, a redshirt sophomore, hasn’t played this season. He transferred to Arkansas prior to the 2015 season from Southern California. He enrolled at USC in January 2015 and went through spring practices with the Trojans before opting to leave. he’s been third string for the Razorbacks.

Bielema said Town plans to transfer to a junior college. If he does that, he can transfer back to an FBS school and play immediately in 2017.

Town was a four-star recruit out of St. Bonaventure in Ventura, California. He was rated the No. 5 quarterback in the Class of 2015.

“With what Ricky has done here, he’s been a great part to our team,” Bielema said. “He played a great role last year as our scout-team quarterback. This year as our third-team quarterback.

“He’s been engaged, locked into every game plan. He just feels there’s a better opportunity for him out there.”

Arkansas also is losing running back Damon “Duwop” Mitchell, a redshirt junior, who played primarily on special teams this season. Mitchell’s transfer wasn’t a big surprise as he was honored during senior day. He had seven carries for 18 yards and six special teams tackles this season. Bielema said Mitchell plans to pursue a graduate transfer to play right away.
