Aquarium holds contest to see who is the loudest seal lion

The Aquarium of the Pacific (AOP) is pitting its sea lions against each other for the most adorable competition on TikTok.

Sea lions are often called the “dogs of the sea.” These playful aquatic animals play fetch with rocks and they’re friendly with the humans they meet. And much like dogs, sea lions bark.

Erin, a mammalogist at AOP, decided to see which resident sea lion had the biggest bark.

“I think our loudest animal here is our sea lions, specifically this little guy Cain. He thinks he’s really loud. Good boy, can we hear it?” Erin says in the clip.

The zoo worker approaches Cain who is hanging out on a rock in the habitat. The sea lion then lets out one long belch. A caption rates Cain a solid 8 out of 10. Next up, it’s Parker, a much larger sea lion. The animal does a few percussive roars. He’s rated a 7 out of 10.

Then there’s Harpo, who’s sitting atop the highest rock like a champ. The sea lion creates a resounding howl that triggers all of the other animals to begin barking too. Harpo is given a 9 out of 10, but the sea lion choir receives a score of 1 million.

The video received 8.4 million views on TikTok. Harpo has a lot of fans in the comments.

“LMFAO. Harpo didn’t even let you finish,” one person wrote.

“Harpo has sent me spiraling,” another said.

“Harpo didn’t waste any time,” someone added.
