The Apprentice star Karren Brady has shut down speculation that she could replace Alan Sugar on the BBC One show when he steps down.

The entrepreneur confirmed that she had no plans to take up the mantle if Lord Sugar chose to leave, instead stating that she would depart with him when the time came.

"When Alan steps down, I step down," Brady told Mail Online. "I wouldn't do it, there's only one person who can sit in that chair and that's him. The Apprentice is Alan."

Baroness Brady has appeared on the show as Lord Sugar's aide for 14 years. She made her The Apprentice debut on series 6, replacing departing advisor Margaret Mountford. Returning for series 17 earlier this year, she's now the longest serving advisor on the BBC show to date.

The no-nonsense businesswoman, who is vice-chairman at West Ham United football club, has established a firm friendship with Lord Sugar, claiming he's very "supportive" of her and the two enjoy "lots of banter" about their chosen football clubs.

Brady credits Lord Sugar as the reason for The Apprentice's success and questioned the show's future without him at the helm.

"He's one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the world, look at what he's achieved," she added. "He left school with no qualifications and built a business into a global force and all the different elements and different businesses he's worked in, he's unique. He had a genuine desire to help people start their own businesses. Everything about him resonates with the viewer and I really don't think the show exists without him."

Series 17 of The Apprentice concluded in March, with boxing gym owner Marnie Swindells crowned the winner after a tough 12 weeks of tasks. The BBC have yet to officially confirm if the show will return for another series.

The Apprentice airs on BBC One, with spin-off series You're Fired airing immediately afterwards on BBC Two.
