Anthony Davis has fractured finger, but could return in a week
New Orleans Pelicans big man Anthony Davis is dealing with a fractured finger, but it’s not as bad as it sounds. Though the injury was confirmed by a hand specialist Wednesday, Davis could return to action as early as next week, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Davis originally injured his left index finger Friday. Initially, it was believed Davis would be able to return in just a week or two. But after a couple days, the Pelicans feared Davis might be dealing with a volar plate avulsion fracture. The timetable for that injury was estimated at two-to-four weeks, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
It turns out Davis is dealing with a volar plate avulsion fracture, but it appears he’ll try to return sooner. Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, told ESPN that pain tolerance will be the deciding factor in how soon Davis is able to get back on the court.
Davis suffered a volar plate avulsion fracture on his left index finger, and Paul says that Davis will be “re-evaluated every 48 to 72 hours,” following Friday. “It’s more of an injury of pain tolerance. They need to see the swelling go down and the range of motion increase." https://t.co/i0JbMCsHGx

Davis will be re-evaluated Friday, and then will continue to be looked at every two or three days to monitor his progress.
The 25-year-old Davis is in the midst of another strong season. He’s averaging a career-high 29.3 points and 13.3 rebounds per game.
If Davis is able to return soon, he could be back on the court before the NBA trade deadline Feb. 7. While Davis has been mentioned in a number of rumors, the Pelicans have firmly stated they have no interest in trading him.
