Anthony Chisholm, 'Oz' actor and Broadway star, dies aged 77

Actor Anthony Chisholm, known for his work on both stage and screen, has died at the age of 77.

The Tony nominated actor's management, The Katz Company, confirmed the news of his passing in a post to social media.

Their Instagram message read: "The Katz Company is saddened to announce the passing of our longtime friend and client, Tony-Nominee, Anthony Chisholm.

A cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

His successful stage career included multiple collaborations with playwright August Wilson, as he enjoyed multiple turns in Jitney and Two Trains Running both on and off-Broadway.

He was nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Tony Award in 2007 for his role of Elder Joseph Barlow in Wilson's Radio Golf.

Chisholm also starred in the HBO prison drama Oz for three seasons as Burr Redding, and had parts in shows Wu-Tang: An American Saga, Random Acts of Flyness and High Maintenance, among others.

His further credits include Spike Lee's 2015 film Chi-Raq and the Zach Braff-directed picture Going In Style alongside Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Christopher Lloyd.

Before he launched his acting career, Chisholm was drafted into the US Army and served as a platoon leader in the Vietnam War.
