Anthony Barr is still getting hate mail for hurting Aaron Rodgers

Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers seems to have recovered from a broken collarbone quickly enough. After suffering the injury on a hard hit from Minnesota’s Anthony Barr in Week 6, the Packers have stayed afloat in a rather weak NFC North and kept their playoff hopes alive.

Now that Rodgers is due to return to the field this week all is well, right?

Not so much. At least, not for Barr.

The Vikings’ linebacker is still getting blown up on social media from angry Green Bay fans wishing him all sorts of pain and agony.

“I don’t feel it’s going to stop,” Barr told the Pioneer Press. “So it kind of is what it is.”

One fan even went as far as to send a handwritten note to Barr wishing that he would break his neck. The linebacker said it was the first time someone had sent a physical piece of hate mail to him and he did his best to laugh it off.

There’s a lot more where that came from in Barr’s mentions on Twitter. Feel free to search them yourself, but be warned that they aren’t exactly what you’d call “family-friendly.”

Is it surprising that Barr is still receiving hate messages for injuring one of the premier quarterbacks in the NFL? Sadly, no. And for his part Barr seems to brush it all off. It’s part of the job, as wrong as that may seem.

Still, maybe wishing for an opponent to break their neck, blow out their ACL or get hit with a dose of karma is taking things too far.

If you’re thinking about sending a message like that to someone just don’t. It’s actually not that hard to abstain from.
