Another chain store is headed for closure in Fresno — this one in River Park

Amid a flurry of “bye bye” puns, the buybuyBABY store in Fresno’s River Park is slated to close.

The store, which sells all kind of items for infants to toddlers, has started its going-out-business sale. It has not set a closing date yet.

The retailer is owned by the same parent company as Bed Bath & Beyond. The company filed for bankruptcy in April and is closing all 360 of those stores, including the one in Fresno. The Visalia Bed Bath & Beyond in Visalia has already closed.

At the time of the Bed Bath & Beyond closure announcement, it was unclear what would happen to the buybuyBABY stores.

The company has since announced it is closing those 120 stores stores also.

The Fresno store, a few doors down from Michaels, is already well into its going-out-of-business sale, with most items between 30% and 50% off.

There’s a chance the buybuyBABY brand could survive in some form as last-ditch efforts to save it have attracted at least one potential buyer, according to several business news sources.

It isn’t clear what that would mean for the Fresno store and others already clearing out merchandise.

Thursday, the River Park buybuyBABY was selling children’s clothing at 30% off. Toys — from Barbies to baseball-and-bat sets— were also discounted by 30%.

Large items such as cribs, dressers, strollers and car seats were 30% off, with baby monitors and cameras marked down by 50%.

Bed Bath & Beyond does not appear to have any potential buyers wanting to take it over. The Fresno store is still fairly full, with most merchandise on sale for 30% to 50% off.

It has not set a closing date, but earlier said it expected most stores to be closed by the end of June.

The closures follow the shuttering of other high-profile chain stores, including Tuesday Morning, some Office Depot stores, most Sears stores and Pier 1.
