Andrew Wiggins one-ups Carmelo Anthony with banked-in buzzer beater

Oklahoma City fans were ready to celebrate Carmelo Anthony’s first big moment while wearing a Thunder jersey, but Andrew Wiggins had other plans.

In a wild Sunday night finish, Anthony gave the Thunder a one-point lead over the Timberwolves by hitting a three-pointer with just around five seconds left on the clock. It looked as if Oklahoma City might pull out a win after trailing by 13 points entering the fourth.

Wiggins, however, took the inbounds pass, weaved his way just inside half-court and called glass before heaving his shot. The ball bounded in off the backboard as the clock expired.

Final score: Timberwolves 115, Thunder 113.

As for Anthony? Well, he had a nice view of Wiggins’ game-winner.

The win moved Minnesota’s record to 2-1. Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns both scored 27 points. The Thunder fell to 1-2 and were led by Russell Westrbook’s 31 points, 15 of which came in the fourth quarter to get the Thunder back into the game.

Anthony scored 23 while the offseason’s other big addition, Paul George, had a disappointing game. He shot just 6-of-20 from the field for 14 points.

If the buzzer-beater looked familiar, it’s because Wiggins has an early knack for the shot this season. He also hit one to beat the clock at the end of Friday’s first half against the Jazz.
